Last week, the Victoria and Albert Museum offered a timely reminder of the brilliance of Parisian fashion house KENZO, with a day of catwalk shows for the label’s latest collection for Spring / Summer 2011.

The event, which took place at the museum’s Raphael Gallery, played host to the Fashion in Motion show, which showcased a new, more international vision for the brand.

Creative Director Antonio Marras has drawn on the Japanese heritage of the label and the rich culture of his native Sardinia for the new collection, with the designs aiming to portray a ‘voyage’ in which the cultures form an explosive fusion.

Marras’ collection mergers the simple elements of traditional Japanese design with the richness of his Sardinian heritage, drawing inspiration from the  natural environments of the two islands.

The new collection sees patterns, prints and textures drawing from the landscape, foliage and coastline of the two areas, creating a vibrant and lively show.

Marras said: “I love new experiences in fashion, hybrid events where fashion meets other forms of expression and different disciplines are reinvented in an innovative perspective. It is amazing that the V&A finds such creative and unexpected ways to present fashion to the public- and a perfect match for KENZO who bold creativity but also pushed boundaries”.
